Lerchenborg Castle was built in the period 1743-53 by General Christian Lerche. Lerchenborg Castle is located close to the beautiful Zealand town, Kalundborg. Back in 1743, Christian Lerche was very much into the Roman architectural style “Baroque”, also used by Michelangelo in some of his works. That is why Lerchenborg Castle is laid out to meet the strict requirements of the baroque regarding symmetry and forms a harmonious architectural whole that is unique in Denmark.

The 9th generation of the Lerche clan, represented nowadays by Chamberlain Count Christian Cornelius Knud Lerche-Lerchenborg, bought Lerchenborg Castle in 1985. One of Chamberlain Count Christian Lerche-Lerchenborg’s first tasks at Lerchenborg Castle was to put the finishing touches to the baroque style in the castle park. Here, a beautiful fountain was installed in the middle of the park alley in 1987, the crown jewel of the fairytale-like architecture of Lerchenborg Castle.
