A Baroque gem with a long and proud history

It is not unusual for an estate of Lerchenborg's size to have a long and proud history, and the estate at Kalundborg is no exception. Lerchenborg Castle was built back in the years 1743-53 by General Christian Lerche. Lerchenborg Castle is located close to the beautiful Zealand town of Kalundborg. In 1743, Christian Lerche was very interested in the Roman architectural style 'Baroque', which Michelangelo, among others, used in a few of his works. Therefore, Lerchenborg Castle is also built according to the Baroque requirements for symmetry, which makes the castle an extremely unique building in Denmark. In other words, Lerchenborg Castle is a Baroque gem. Both in terms of the building mass and the surrounding park area.

Since 1985, the 9th generation of the Lerche family, in the form of Chamberlain Christian Count Lerche-Lerchenborg, has owned Lerchenborg Castle. One of Chamberlain Christian Count Lerche-Lerchenborg's first tasks at Lerchenborg Castle was to complete the Baroque style in the castle's park. In 1987, a beautiful water sculpture was installed in the middle of the park's avenue. This put the finishing touch on Lerchenborg Castle's fairytale architecture.
