What to do before your wedding...

To-do list for your wedding

  • Make a budget and consider – need to have, nice to have?
  • Make a list of the guests you would like to invite
  • Book the venue
  • Book the church
  • Send out a “save the date” card to be sure that all the guests can reserve the date.

12-18 months prior the wedding

Look for inspiration for your wedding style: how the venue should be decorated, which flowers you would like, what the invitations should look like, etc.

Book the following:

  • The food
  • Waitstaff
  • Music – will there be special music in the church, for the reception, dinner music during the meal, and a band or DJ after midnight?
  • Book a photographer. The best photographers get booked first, so you might as well get started.

9-12 months prior the wedding

  • Buy the wedding dress
  • Order the wedding cake
  • Order wedding transport
  • Order bartenders
  • Order late night snacks
  • Order hair dresser/makeup artist
  • Select a best man, a toastmaster, and a gift coordinator.

3-6 months prior the wedding

  • Send out invitations
  • Check on overnight guests – do you have the number of rooms you need?
  • Buy the decorations for your wedding
  • Order flowers
  • Buy beverages
  • Buy the rings
  • Buy the groom's outfit
  • You must complete a declaration of marriage with the municipality no earlier than four months in advance to obtain a certificate of no impediment.

30 days prior the wedding

  • Meeting with the minister/priest – remember to check on the flowers in the church; who is taking care of that?
  • Make the table seating
  • Make place cards

14 days prior the wedding

  • Draft a schedule for the kitchen and serving staff.
  • Check on overnight guests.
  • Plan who will help with the cleanup the next day, as well as how all the gifts will be transported home.
  • Check your arrangements, remember to provide the various suppliers with the exact address, and be aware that nothing can be delivered before your rental period begins at 3:00 PM.

 7 days prior the wedding

  • Fold the napkins

On the day itself, your only job is to enjoy the experience and answer any questions that might arise - DO NOT GIVE YOURSELVES ANY TASKS ON THIS DAY!!!!

And enjoy!

After the wedding

  • Send thank-you cards
  • Apply for a name change – it is free for up to 3 months after the wedding (in Denmark).
